Berner Oberland

So much beauty in one region

Wherever you choose to pitch your tent or park your caravan in the Bernese Oberland: make sure you leave enough time to allow this unique holiday region to work its magic on you. Here, where painters and poets of the 19th century enthused about the lovely waterfalls and rugged rock faces, where film directors chased their “00” agents down steep slopes and dams, Switzerland can be seen in all its glory. Enjoy the gentle charm of the Alpine foothills in the soft green valleys of Kander und Simme in the west. Dive into the emerald green Thun or Brienz lakes. Let the imposing peaks and glaciers of the Jungfrau Region take your breath away or be enchanted by the primitive nature of the Hasli Valley and Grimselwelt away to the east.

The Bernese Oberland is worth a visit in any season and offers holiday experiences throughout the year to suit all tastes. For keen walkers, there is a vast network of around 1700 km of hiking trails which offer the perfect challenge for every level: from panoramic, safe beginner routes along idyllic mountain streams and lakes to challenging, high-alpine tours up to SAC huts and along mountain peaks. There are themed paths and educational trails especially for families with children and there is lots to discover in stalactite caves, gorges and the numerous waterfalls. And because exploring makes you hungry, you should make time for a stop at one of the many barbecue areas.

If you prefer to cycle, you can experience the beauty of nature perfectly on a tour along well-laid cycle paths along the lakes or rivers. For those who like more exertion, you are sure to find the right altitude for your mountain bike.

Even adrenalin junkies are catered for in the Bernese Oberland because when it comes to adventure sports, there is nothing that you can’t do: set your pulse racing with a bungee or parachute jump, rafting or canyoning excursion, climbing or paragliding.

Camping in winter? Why not? With several hundred kilometres of ski slopes, the Bernese Oberland offers the ultimate playground for unrestricted snow fun: here little ski bunnies can have as much fun on gentle beginner slopes as the confirmed ski or snowboard professionals on mogul fields or in fun parks. And if you want to take things a little easier, you can follow tracks in the powder snow with snowshoes or enjoy the romance of winter on foot along the well-prepared winter hiking routes. Many camp sites are open throughout the year and cater to the particular needs of their winter guests. So why don’t you spend a winter holiday in the heart of nature on a camp site for a change?
